Bio

İpek Burçak (born in Istanbul, lives in Berlin) is an artist who works across a range of media, including moving image, installation, performance, sound, and publication. In her practice she explores ideas of technologies as commons, often employing a speculative approach. Encompassing archives, datasets, and language models her works reconstruct subversive narratives and engage in world-building. Her current research addresses the implications of probabilistic automation use in relation to neurodiversity and healthcare. Burçak often works in collaboration with others and favours interdisciplinary approaches in her practice.

In her work as one half of Well Gedacht Publishing (with Eren İleri), she approaches publishing practices from anti-colonial, diasporic, and critical-tech perspectives with a particular interest in building modes of digital autonomy and advancing open source digital publishing.

Her works have been shown internationally, including at Künstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin, Stedelijk Museum, Galerie im Turm Berlin, re:publica, SoMad NYC, Technopolis, among other venues. She has presented talks and workshops at dia NYC, CCC (Chaos Communication Congress), the Station of Commons, Haus der Kunst der Welt, Refuge Worldwide, offline, as well as at other institutions.
